What is your major and why did you choose it?
I am double majoring in Environmental Studies and Global Liberal Studies, concentrating in Sustainability, Health, and the Environment at New York University. During a COVID quarantine, I only had a book for one of my courses (The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert) and I read it three times over in a week. That’s when I realized I wanted to be an advocate for the Earth.
What do you hope to do post graduation?
I am still not sure! I do not know if I want to lean into policy or more social justice. I might go to grad school abroad but who knows how many times I will change my mind.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a wildlife photographer for National Geographic or a location scouter for TV shows.
What do you hope to learn while interning with GASP?
I want to learn what I can actually do to make a difference for environmental justice. I have researched and written so many papers about different cases, but I want to do more.
Why is our mission to reduce air pollution important to you?
My grandmother grew up in the Bessemer area and then raised her family there. She died from a very rare respiratory cancer when I was very young. A couple of years ago, her stepsister contracted and passed from the exact same rare cancer. It could have only been from environmental causes. I do not want this to happen to any other families.
What is your favorite food?
My mom’s chicken casserole is the first meal I ask for every time I come home from school.
Where do you consider your hometown?
Ardmore, Alabaama/Tennessee — it is half in each state!
What are your hobbies?
I love to read and crochet and embroider random things.
Who or what are your influences?
My biggest influence is my cousin Kenzi. She showed me how to apply myself and work hard and shoot for the stars. She is the reason I am now living my dream in New York City.
