BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Comments on the draft air pollution permit renewal for ABC Coke, a Drummond Company, are due to health department officials by close of business (4:30 p.m.) Friday, April 18. A copy of the draft permit can be found here.
The Jefferson County Department of Health held a public hearing regarding the permit Monday, April 14. Dozens of interested residents affected by air pollution packed a small conference room at JCDH’s central office in Southside Birmingham. (GASP had requested the time and location of the hearing be changed to better accommodate residents’ needs, but that request was denied by JCDH.)
GASP will assist residents who believe their health and well-being has been affected by ABC Coke’s air pollution. Call 1-866-581-GASP (4277) to leave a message on the pollution hotline or email Kirsten Bryant as soon as possible to learn how GASP can can you file comments with JCDH before the deadline this Friday.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said at a public informational meeting that it will review the final permit issued by JCDH. Comments will be helpful in strengthening protections for those who live and work near ABC Coke.
