I began volunteering with GASP after recently moving to Birmingham to become more involved in the community in a meaningful way. I am passionate about supporting efforts that promote cleaner air, healthier communities, and environmental equity. As a member of GASP’s Junior Board, I am excited to support the organization in a more direct capacity, helping to generate new ideas and advance GASP’s mission alongside others who are committed to these goals. I look forward to helping build a healthier future for communities across the greater Birmingham area.

I am excited to join GASP’s Junior Board because I am deeply and equally passionate about both public and environmental health. I believe that clean air and water are unconditional human rights, and that we should all work together to ensure that no community is left behind in the efforts to conserve these valuable resources. In my current role as a Senior Program Manager for a public health nonprofit, I have the privilege of traveling to and building relationships in communities all across Alabama. I see disparities daily in air quality, and quality of life, among Alabama residents. I look forward to collaborating with GASP to work towards environmental justice together.

I decided to join the GASP Junior Board because I want to use my voice and energy to advocate for communities that are too often forced to carry the heaviest environmental burdens. Growing up in Birmingham, I’ve seen how clean air and safe neighborhoods aren’t distributed equally—and how environmental issues can show up in everyday life, from the air we breathe to the health outcomes families face over time.
Serving with GASP is an opportunity for me to fight for the communities that shaped me and to help push for real, lasting change across the city. I’m proud to support work that protects Birmingham’s air, holds polluters accountable, and centers the people most impacted—because everyone deserves to live, work, and grow up in a community where clean air is a right, not a privilege.

I am a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and more than nine years of experience across administrative support, customer service, social services, and financial services. I am currently preparing to apply to law school with the goal of building a career centered on advocacy, public service, and community impact.
My connection to GASP began through volunteering, where I witnessed firsthand the organization’s commitment to improving air quality and protecting public health. As someone who has asthma and grew up in a community affected by environmental and public health challenges, I understand that access to clean air is both a public health issue and an issue of environmental justice. These experiences have shaped my commitment to advancing equity and improving conditions that impact everyday life and opportunity. Joining GASP’s Junior Board is an opportunity to support a mission I care deeply about while contributing to efforts that create healthier, more equitable communities for future generations.

I chose to join GASP because of the opportunities to get involved with my neighbors and advocate for a safer, cleaner, and healthier Birmingham. Our city and state are home to so much flora, fauna, and natural wonder, but our greatest resource is our people. I believe all of these are worth protecting, and I am excited to be a part of advocating for clean air for all, and working with GASP at the intersection of policy, community engagement, science, energy, public health, and environmental justice.

I was already familiar with the great work that GASP does in Birmingham, so when I began looking for nonprofit junior board experience, it was the perfect fit for me. I’m looking forward to doing work that goes beyond the scope of my traditional nonprofit communications positions.

I felt drawn to join GASP’s Junior Board because it’s an opportunity to add my voice to the work of building a healthier future. I want to help push forward the belief that informed communities working together can create real change! As someone who works in tech, I’ve watched my industry ask communities to absorb the costs of data centers and new technologies as “necessary,” when that framing doesn’t hold up against the damage done to the people who carry it. My goal is to help protect our environment and the people who live in it alongside a community already doing the work.
