We cannot no longer rely on the federal government to protect our environmental and public health. States and cities are no leading the way. That’s where you come in. The Alabama Cities for Sustainable Energy campaign is all about transitioning Alabama to a 100% renewable energy future. We believe this is a critical step in creating a more just, sustainable, and healthy Alabama country for everyone who lives, works, and learns here.

Pollution accounts for 9 million premature deaths worldwide every year. Regardless of your personal opinion about climate change or the EPA, you have to admit that that’s an absurd number of preventable deaths from something we’ve known for decades is harmful to humans! Gasp defines sustainable energy as energy generated from renewable sources (e.g., wind and solar) that results in little to no emissions. In other words, sustainable energy is that which does not pollute our air, water, and land the way dirty fossil fuels do. And don’t forget, the cleanest kilowatt is the one you don’t use — which is to say: energy efficiency is vital!

By moving to 100% sustainable energy, your city will create good-paying, homegrown jobs and economic growth. Alabamians, regardless of political party, support clean air and clean water. This is a no brainer.
